Shubman Gill finds that leadership brings out the best in him, as it allows him to fully enjoy his time on the field.
After leading India to a 4-1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe in Harare, Gill expressed his enjoyment of being a captain. He believes that being in that role brings out a different side of him, one that thrives on being actively involved in the game.
Despite the initial challenge of losing the opening game of the series, Gill quickly adapted to his leadership role and guided India to comfortable victories in the following matches.
Gill acknowledged the pressure that comes with captaincy but found immense satisfaction in overcoming it and leading India to success.
Leading a relatively young and inexperienced Indian squad in Zimbabwe, Gill was impressed by the talent of his teammates and enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside them.
Reflecting on India’s loss in the first T20I, Gill attributed it to a failure in properly assessing the conditions, leading to a loss of wickets and pressure on the team.
Gill did not name a specific international captain as his idol but mentioned that he looks up to Rohit Sharma for his leadership qualities.
