“A very, very sad day in Pakistan cricket” is how Pakistan legend Wasim Akram described the nation’s loss to India at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Reflecting on the game on his personal X account, Akram uploaded a video urging for immediate changes to the current Pakistan team. Despite being in control of the run chase, the Babar Azam-led side suffered a six-run defeat, with India’s Jasprit Bumrah taking three crucial wickets. Akram criticized the performance and appealed to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for changes in the team.
“Enough is enough. We need changes now. Enough with you guys. Bring in a new team, bring in 6-7 new players. If we lose, let’s lose with them,” an upset Akram expressed.
“We need new players and we need to support them in order to build a team for the future that can compete,” he emphasized.
Akram slammed the Pakistan players for letting go of a winnable match, on a pitch that favored batsmen more than the score indicated.
“The captain and coach cannot teach you how to be situationally aware and how to chase! How long will they be spoon-fed?” Akram criticized.
Pakistan batsman Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed while trying to take on Jasprit Bumrah, scoring 31 off 44 balls.
– “At this rate, does Pakistan deserve to progress in the tournament?”

“I urge the PCB chairman to make bold decisions. All we hear is this player is upset, that player is upset,” Akram expressed his frustration.
“The players should approach the PCB chairman themselves and request a break,” he suggested.
Following the loss to India, which has put Pakistan in a precarious position in the 2024 T20 World Cup, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has hinted at imminent changes.
“The team needs significant changes,” Naqvi remarked after the defeat to India.
Despite a victory against Canada, Pakistan’s chances of qualification depend on India or USA losing matches.
