Former England spinner Monty Panesar has expressed confidence in the Indian team’s ability to claim the ICC T20 World Cup title and break their trophy drought. Panesar made a bold prediction about India’s Virat Kohli, foreseeing a century from the star batsman in the final against South Africa. “India will win the T20 World Cup final, and Virat Kohli will score 100,” Panesar told ANI.
Despite a successful IPL 2024 season with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli has struggled to find his form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. While he finished the IPL as the Orange Cap holder with impressive numbers, Kohli has only managed 75 runs at the T20 World Cup so far.
Although Kohli showed glimpses of his brilliance with a few good shots, he has not been able to consistently perform in the tournament. The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, has also expressed confidence in Kohli’s ability to deliver in the final against South Africa.
“He (Kohli) is a quality player. Any player can go through that. We understand his class and importance in big games. Form is never a problem for someone with 15 years of experience. He’s looking good, and I believe he is saving his best for the final,” Rohit said in a post-match presentation.
