Teams vying for spots in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 have a special incentive to secure their place: a top eight finish guarantees direct qualification for the next T20 World Cup in 2026.
The upcoming tournament will feature 20 teams, with 12 already ensured of participation. These include the two co-hosts India (already in the Super Eight) and Sri Lanka, as well as the top seven teams from the 2024 Super Eight (excluding India) and the three highest-ranked teams outside of these as of June 30, 2024. The remaining eight spots will be determined through regional qualifiers organized by the ICC.
Although some Full Members have been eliminated from this year’s competition, teams like Sri Lanka, England, Pakistan, and New Zealand still have a chance to qualify based on ICC rankings. England, New Zealand, and Pakistan are currently ranked 4th, 6th, and 7th, respectively, providing them with a safety net. Depending on other results, Ireland at 11th place could also qualify through rankings.
