Rahul Dravid expressed his admiration for the current talent in Indian cricket after the final match. He highlighted the energy and confidence of the players, stating that they are capable of winning many trophies in the coming years. Dravid took over as coach in November 2021, and despite reaching the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup last year, India had not secured a trophy until now.
Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup, Dravid emphasized that the team’s preparation has been a two-year journey. He praised the team’s fighting spirit, evident in their victory despite facing challenges during the final match against South Africa.
Dravid, who never won a World Cup as a player, does not view the recent victory as redemption but as a result of the team’s hard work. He expressed gratitude towards the team and support staff for their efforts.
As he concludes his coaching tenure on a high note, Dravid is appreciative of the collaborative effort that led to their success. He acknowledged the professionalism and dedication of the support staff and highlighted the positive attributes of captain Rohit Sharma.
With the retirements of Rohit and Virat Kohli from T20Is, the team will undergo a transition period to fill the void left by these players. The BCCI is in search of a new coach, with Gautam Gambhir being a potential candidate due to his experience in different formats of the game.
