Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the victorious T20 World Cup 2024-winning Indian cricket team at his residence. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team emerged victorious against South Africa in the final. However, it was a bittersweet occasion as soon after the win, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20I cricket. Despite this, the team celebrated their success after facing delays due to bad weather in Barbados. The players arrived in New Delhi early on Thursday morning and visited PM Modi’s residence, engaging in a candid conversation with him until 1 PM. One of the team members, Suryakumar Yadav, shared a social media post from 2017 expressing gratitude to PM Modi for his involvement in a cleanliness campaign.
Meanwhile, BCCI officials Roger Binny and Jay Shah presented a special ‘NAMO’ India jersey to PM Modi during their meeting at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. The team, including head coach Rahul Dravid, had the opportunity to interact with PM Modi and showcase the T20 World Cup trophy to him.
After the meeting, the team departed for Mumbai where a victory parade was arranged by the BCCI from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium, followed by a felicitation ceremony. Jay Shah, who was present at the final in Barbados, will distribute the Rs 125 crore cash prize to the team for their historic ICC trophy win.
