Ranatunga, who led Sri Lanka to victory in the 1996 World Cup, was a star performer in the historic campaign. After retiring from cricket, he ventured into politics and served as a Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka. A recent picture of Ranatunga with former Indian captain Kapil Dev has taken the internet by storm.

The BCCI announced that the start of India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka has been postponed by a day to July 27.

The revised schedule will see India playing three T20 Internationals and three ODIs in Sri Lanka, with matches at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Indian squad for the tour is yet to be announced, but star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to be rested. Gautam Gambhir will serve as the new head coach for India, while Sanath Jayasuriya will be the interim head coach for Sri Lanka.
