Quinton de Kock played a brilliant innings and the bowlers did well to defend a below-par total as South Africa secured a narrow seven-run victory over England in their Group 2 Super Eight match in the T20 World Cup at Gros Islet, St Lucia on Friday. Despite De Kock’s impressive 65 off 38 balls, England restricted South Africa to 163/6, however, they fell short in their chase and finished at 156 for six.
South Africa executed their plans perfectly by taking the pace off the ball, while England struggled to score boundaries between the fifth and 12th over, ultimately losing the match.
England fought back with Harry Brook scoring 53 and Liam Livingstone adding 33 runs, bringing some hope for their team. However, South Africa remained calm under pressure and managed to secure the win.
Despite England needing 46 runs from the final four overs, Ottneil Baartman’s costly over allowed them to bridge the gap. But Kagiso Rabada’s brilliance with the ball helped South Africa seal the victory.
Reeza Hendricks took a stunning catch to dismiss Phil Salt early in the innings, setting the tone for South Africa’s bowling attack. England struggled to accelerate their scoring rate and paid the price for their slow start.
Quinton de Kock’s explosive start was supported by David Miller’s late surge, helping South Africa reach a competitive total after losing momentum in the middle overs.
