The Pakistan Cricket Board has declined issuing No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan for the Global T20 in Canada. The PCB stated that the decision was made after consulting with the players and the selection committee.
The PCB also recently refused Naseem Shah’s NOC to participate in the Hundred tournament. This decision comes as the PCB anticipates a busy international schedule for the players in the upcoming months.
The PCB’s decision to withhold NOCs for these players is based on their roles as all-format international cricketers, with a packed schedule ahead including Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. As a result, the PCB is limiting players’ participation in T20 tournaments leading up to important series.
While some players have received NOCs for certain leagues, the PCB is restricting the participation of key players in tournaments that do not align with the international calendar. This move has sparked discussions about the compliance with central contract agreements and the players’ expectations.
Despite expectations, Afridi’s plans to play in the Global T20 Canada have been disrupted. The NOC refusals extend beyond current tournaments, as the Pakistan team faces a packed schedule until May 2025.
The upcoming matches include series against England, Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and West Indies, as well as participation in the PSL. The PCB is unlikely to grant NOCs for T20 leagues during this period, prioritizing international commitments.
With Bangladesh series on the horizon in August, the PCB remains focused on preparing the team for the upcoming challenges.
