India’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Sanju Samson, has often been overlooked by selectors despite his talent. The Rajasthan Royals captain, who debuted in 2015, was left out of the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 squads. He was later included in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad but did not get a chance to play. Recently, he featured in India’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, playing two matches without scoring a run.
Speaking at an event, the 29-year-old expressed his lack of concern over being snubbed, as long as Team India is successful. “I will play whenever I am selected. Ultimately, our team’s performance is what matters. I believe in a higher purpose and focus on staying positive in controllable situations and giving my best effort,” said Samson.

Prior to the Sri Lanka series, Samson played in the five-match T20Is against Zimbabwe, featuring in three matches. He scored a half-century in the final match as India won the series 4-1.
Since his debut in 2015, Samson has played 30 T20Is, scoring 444 runs, and 16 ODIs, scoring 510 runs. Besides international cricket, he has featured in 167 IPL matches, accumulating 4419 runs, including three centuries and 25 half-centuries.
In the 2024 IPL season, Samson scored 531 runs in 15 matches for Rajasthan Royals, finishing as the tournament’s fifth-highest run-scorer.
As for Team India, Rohit Sharma’s side lost the three-match ODI series to Sri Lanka 0-2. After the first match ended in a tie, Sri Lanka secured victories in the remaining two matches to claim the series.
