India missed a golden opportunity to take a 1-0 lead over Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series. Chasing 231 in the first ODI, Rohit Sharma and his team were always in the game but fell short as the match ended in a tie. It was a surprising result as India needed just one run off 15 balls with two wickets in hand. However, skipper Charith Asalanka remained composed and dismissed Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh on consecutive deliveries to save Sri Lanka from defeat.
With 14 balls left, India required only 1 run when pacer Arshdeep came to bat. The Punjab Kings star attempted a big slogsweep but missed the ball, resulting in an LBW dismissal.
After the match, a viral picture circulated on social media showing Rohit giving an angry look to Arshdeep. This image sparked a meme frenzy as fans shared humorous memes on X (previously Twitter).

“There was no consistent momentum throughout the game for us. We started well with the bat but knew the game would change once the spinners came on. We had the upper hand initially, but then lost a couple of wickets and fell behind,” said Rohit Sharma during the post-match presentation.
“It’s a bit disappointing, needing just 1 run off 14 balls. These things happen. Sri Lanka played well, and it was a fair result. The pitch remained consistent. It had some assistance for bowlers initially, but it eased up as the game progressed,” he added.
India and Sri Lanka will face each other again in the second ODI of the series on Sunday in Colombo.
