Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma has moved up to the second spot in the ODI men’s batting rankings, now trailing only Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Despite India’s loss in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rohit emerged as the highest run-scorer, scoring 157 runs at a strike rate of 141.44, including two fifties. Following Babar, Indian batters hold the next three spots, with Rohit Sharma in second, Shubman Gill in third, and Virat Kohli in fourth. These three players are separated by just 19 rating points.
While Babar Azam of Pakistan maintains a comfortable lead at the top of the list for ODI batters, he faces new competition from India’s Rohit Sharma and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka.
Rohit surpasses his teammate Shubman Gill to claim the second spot behind Babar after his impressive performance of 157 runs against Sri Lanka. Nissanka also advances a spot to eighth following his 101 runs in the same series.
Sri Lanka’s victory over India during the ODI series marks the first time in 27 years that Sri Lanka defeated India since 1997. Kusal Mendis (up five spots to equal 39th) and Avishka Fernando (up 20 places to 68th) also make significant gains on the latest list for 50-over batters.
The rankings for Test players have also seen movement after the draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad, as per the ICC.
South Africa’s Temba Bavuma achieves a new career-high rating and climbs two places to 16th on the list for Test batters after scoring 86 and 15* against the West Indies. Opener Tony de Zorzi rises 29 places to 85th following an excellent 78 in the first innings of the ICC World Test Championship match.
There are notable advancements for West Indies players like Jason Holder (up three spots to 67th) and Alick Athanaze (up 12 places to 76th) in the Test batting rankings. South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is a standout performer on the Test bowlers’ list, climbing seven spots to equal 21st after claiming four wickets in each innings and earning Player of the Match honors.
The West Indies also see progress from spinner Jomel Warrican, who rises 12 spots to 54th and achieves a new career-best rating after taking six wickets in the match.
