The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering making changes to the seven-member selection committee following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. The PCB plans to review what went wrong and streamline the operations of the selection committee. It is likely that the number of committee members will be reduced, and the PCB may also revert to having an official head or chief of the selection committee.
Despite speculation, it is unlikely that Wahab will be reinstated as the head of the committee. There is frustration within the PCB about the perception that Wahab has been the de facto leader of the committee. Wahab’s future in the committee remains uncertain, as the PCB aims to demonstrate accountability for all decisions.
Potential changes to the national set-up may be indicated by revisions to players’ central contracts set to expire on June 30. The PCB and players agreed to three-year contracts last year, with players’ categorizations subject to change based on performance. Currently, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are in the highest category.
