Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has decided to take an eight-week break to recharge himself for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. Cummins, who recently returned from Major League Cricket in the US, will skip the white-ball tour of the UK next month to focus on managing his workload and preparing his body for the busy season ahead. “Everyone who takes a break comes back feeling fresher, and you never regret it,” Cummins told Fox Sports.
“I’ve been bowling non-stop since the World Test Championship final almost 18 months ago. This break will give my body time to recover and then I can start building up for the summer,” he added. Cummins had a challenging schedule in the last 12 months, including various series and tournaments.
“I’m feeling very sore today after a week of gym. You can’t address all the niggles and pains that build up over time while in the midst of the season,” the 31-year-old said. Cummins is eager to lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this summer, a title Australia has not won since 2017.
“It’s the one trophy that has eluded me so far… our team has achieved great things, but this is a goal we are focused on,” Cummins expressed. He also expressed his interest in continuing T20 cricket and aiming for the gold medal at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
“Watching the Olympics got us all excited. I would love to be part of the team in LA 2028. It feels like a long way off now, but hopefully, I’ll still be playing at that level,” he said.
