This will mark the first time that 22-year-old Fatima will be leading Pakistan in T20Is and at an ICC event. She has previously captained the national team twice in ODIs, one of which was a memorable Super Over victory against New Zealand at Hagley Oval when she was filling in for the injured Dar.
In addition to the change in captaincy, the Pakistan team remains largely unchanged, with only one alteration from the squad that recently participated in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Batter Sadaf Shamas, who was also part of the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, has replaced wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi.

Out of the 15-member squad, ten players return from the last T20 World Cup in 2023, including Aliya Riaz, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sandhu, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Tuba Hassan, Shamas, Dar, and Fatima. The selection of left-arm spinner Sadia is dependent on her fitness, while uncapped left-arm seamer Tasmia Rubab has also been included in the squad.

Alvi, who was omitted from the main squad, has been named as the travelling reserve for Pakistan. Rameen Shamim and Umm-e-Hani are the non-travelling reserves.

The Women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin in the UAE on October 3, with Pakistan placed in Group A alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. The revised tournament schedule following its relocation from Bangladesh has not yet been announced.

Travelling reserve: Najiha Alvi (wicketkeeper). Non-travelling reserves: Rameen Shamim and Umm-e-Hani
