Following a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, the Pakistan men’s senior team is in the midst of another rebuilding phase. Some former stars of the team traveled to Birmingham for the World Championship of Legends, where they faced India in the final. One of these former players, Abdul Razzaq, who also served as a national selector, shared a humorous anecdote about his communication with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
When asked if the PCB had sent any motivational messages to the team, Razzaq replied tongue-in-cheek, “I have received a termination letter.” Former Pakistan cricketer Sikander Bakht playfully inquired if the PCB had promised a cash prize for winning the trophy, to which Razzaq humorously responded, “I have received a termination letter.”
Razzaq was not the only selector to be relieved of his duties by the PCB. Another former player, Wahab Riaz, was also let go after the T20 World Cup. However, not all members of the selection panel were removed. Razzaq emphasized that team selections were made collectively and denied allegations of bias towards certain players.

After their dismissal, Wahab and Razzaq dismissed allegations of favoritism and pressure on other selectors during the T20 World Cup. Wahab’s removal raised eyebrows due to his close relationship with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Wahab had previously served in various roles within the PCB, including as chief selector and senior team manager.
Accusations were made that Wahab and Razzaq had pushed for the selection of unfit players and overlooked disciplinary issues within the team. Wahab denied these claims and emphasized that selections were made collaboratively, with equal input from all members of the panel.
