The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed Nawaz last month following the non-renewal of Stuart Law’s contract. Law, the previous head coach during the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, has now moved on to coach the USA men’s national team.
Nawaz, who spent two years as Sri Lanka men’s assistant coach, emphasized the high expectations awaiting the new batch of Under-19 players in Bangladesh, given their past championship status.
“BCB has established a strong program for us to follow, building on past successes. Our goal is to equip the players with necessary experiences and confidence to excel. Players are crucial in shaping the future of the game,” Nawaz stated, highlighting the importance of creating a supportive environment for growth.
Nawaz plans to scout talented cricketers around the country and collaborate with selectors to identify the players needed for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
“Our focus for the next two years is clear. We aim to analyze and cultivate talent within our team to ensure a competitive edge. Building a fearless team capable of challenging any opponent is our objective,” Nawaz outlined.
Nawaz acknowledged the significant effort required for players to transition successfully into senior levels, emphasizing the need for continuous development and adaptation to excel in international cricket.
“The game has become more analytical, demanding players to swiftly address weaknesses and adapt to challenges. BCB’s high-performance programs are designed to support players in honing their skills and boosting confidence for elite competitions,” Nawaz concluded.
