The Indian cricket team finally ended their long wait on Saturday as they clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. This victory marked their first ICC title in 11 years, with their last win coming in 2013 in the Champions Trophy led by MS Dhoni. Interestingly, the last time India won the T20 World Cup was also under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. It was expected that Dhoni’s reaction to breaking this jinx would be special.
In a rare social media post, MS Dhoni congratulated the team on their World Cup victory, expressing his joy and appreciation for their performance. He thanked the team for bringing the cup home and called it a priceless birthday gift.
Legendary Sachin Tendulkar also took to social media to congratulate the team, stating that India now has a ‘fourth star’ to add to their jersey with this T20 World Cup win, adding to their previous World Cup triumphs in 1983, 2011, and the 2007 T20 World Cup.
He mentioned the journey of Indian cricket from the lows of the 2007 World Cup to becoming a cricketing powerhouse with this latest victory. Tendulkar highlighted the contributions of Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and other squad members in achieving this milestone.
He praised Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Jasprit Bumrah’s Player of the Tournament award, Virat Kohli’s Player of the Match award, and the overall team effort that led to India’s success in the T20 World Cup 2024.
