Lockie Ferguson achieved a remarkable feat in T20I history by bowling the most economical spell, helping New Zealand restrict Papua New Guinea to just 78 runs in their Group C World Cup match. Ferguson’s figures of 3/0 in 4 overs with 3 maidens made him only the second bowler in T20I history to achieve this after Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar.
New Zealand bowlers dominated the PNG batsmen, restricting them to their respective ends and ultimately wrapping up their innings in 19.4 overs. The Kiwis kept the boundaries in check and put pressure on PNG, limiting their boundaries to just four in the first half of their innings.

Trent Boult (2/14) and Tim Southee (2/11) made crucial breakthroughs for New Zealand, with Ferguson shining with his exceptional bowling performance throughout the innings. Ferguson’s spell of 3 maiden overs without conceding a run was a standout performance, as he picked up important wickets including that of PNG skipper Assad Vala.
The New Zealand bowlers continued to dominate with Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi also contributing with wickets. Boult and Southee returned to wrap up the PNG innings, with Sodhi cleaning up the tail in the final over.
