In a statement released by Knight Riders, Goswami expressed her excitement, saying, “It’s an honor to be a part of such a prestigious franchise. I have seen the success of the Knight Riders in India and globally, and I am thrilled to be joining the TKR Women’s team for the WCPL. I am grateful to the KKR management for considering me for the role of mentor, and I can’t wait for the tournament to begin.”
Goswami, India’s leading wicket-taker in women’s international cricket, retired in 2022 and currently serves as the bowling coach and mentor for the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League. This will mark her first foray into an overseas T20 league.
“The discussions about me joining TKR started with Mr. Venky Mysore [CEO of Knight Riders group],” Goswami revealed. “The way he looks after everyone as the head of management is truly commendable. I felt honored by the warm welcome and conversations I had with both Shah Rukh Khan and Venky sir when we met in Kolkata during the IPL.”
Speaking about the signing, Mysore commented, “Jhulan Goswami is a true legend of the sport, and we are delighted to have her on board as the mentor for the TKR Women’s team. We believe that under Jhulan’s guidance, the team will achieve great success. This is a fantastic opportunity for young players to learn from Jhulan’s expertise and experiences to enhance their own skills. We wish her the best of luck and are excited to see her with the TKR team soon.”
The WCPL 2024 is scheduled to take place from August 21 to 29, featuring three teams – TKR, Barbados Royals, and Guyana Amazon Warriors – playing seven matches at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
