With a desire to make a return to the Indian team, Ishan Kishan made a strong start to his comeback in red ball cricket. Selected in the India C squad by the BCCI for the first round of the upcoming Duleep Trophy matches in September, the wicket-keeper batsman is preparing for it by participating in the Buchi Babu Invitation Cricket Tournament. Playing for Jharkhand, Kishan showed no signs of rustiness, despite not having played a red-ball game for over a year.
In the match against Madhya Pradesh, Kishan showcased his skills behind the stumps by taking three impressive catches during a lengthy day of cricket.

The highlight of the day was Kishan’s final catch, a spectacular diving effort to dismiss Madhya Pradesh’s Ramveer Gurjar, who had flicked the ball towards the leg side.
Kishan’s first catch was a routine one, dismissing right-hander Chanchal Rathore. The second catch, off the bowling of spinner Aditya Singh, required quick reflexes from Kishan. A catch off the edge of left-hander Shubham S Kushwah was initially spilled but Kishan managed to grab it on the second attempt.
Madhya Pradesh finished the day at 225/8.
Brief scores: Madhya Pradesh 225/8 in 90 overs (Shubham S Kushwah 84, Arham Aquil 57; Vivekanand Tiwary 2-25, Aditya Singh 2-29) against Jharkhand
Roadmap to Team India
Kishan faced challenges in 2024, including being omitted from the BCCI’s central contract list for allegedly refusing to play domestic cricket. He also had a tough IPL season with Mumbai Indians, as the team finished at the bottom of the table.
However, Kishan has now been given an opportunity to earn his place back in Team India. His inclusion in the BCCI’s squads for the Duleep Trophy indicates that selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir have him in consideration.
