“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us as a team,” Harmanpreet expressed on the eve of the Test. “Getting accustomed to the home conditions is essential, and even though they are familiar conditions, our experience here is limited. This series will provide us with valuable insights into the pitch behavior and potential team compositions for the World Cup. With about a year left until the World Cup, we are embracing this chance during our home series to understand the pitch conditions and enhance our skills.”
“In Test cricket, you need to sustain performance over four days. However, dwelling on that can lead to overthinking. Focusing on winning sessions rather than the entire match was beneficial previously and will continue to be our approach. Test cricket allows for comebacks; if one session is lost, there is ample time to regroup,” she explained.
“Our support staff emphasized breaking down the game into sessions of two to two-and-a-half hours, enabling players to concentrate on their performance within that timeframe. This strategic approach has proven successful in our past Test matches, and we aim to maintain it,” she added.
“Under Amol sir’s guidance, which is backed by his rich Test cricket experience, I have gained valuable insights on making field decisions. I feel more prepared now,” she shared.
“We are unfamiliar with how the Chennai pitch will behave in women’s cricket as opposed to men’s. The pace, bowling, and batting strategies differ, and we will grasp this only once we are on the field tomorrow, observing the pitch’s behavior and making informed decisions. The experienced support staff will undoubtedly aid us in this regard,” she concluded.
