The semi-final positions for the ongoing T20 World Cup have been confirmed. India and England will meet in a rematch of the previous edition’s semi-final, which England won by 10 wickets in Adelaide. Meanwhile, South Africa secured a victory against Afghanistan in the other semi-final match. Afghanistan was dominated by South Africa in the first semi-final. India will face England at 8 PM IST in Guyana, while both matches will be held on Thursday (IST).
There are different playing conditions for the semi-finals and finals. The first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan has a reserve day, but the India-England match does not.
Why does the India vs England semi-final lack a reserve day?
The decision was made for India’s semi-final to take place in Guyana without a reserve day. There is only a day’s gap between the Guyana match and the final in Barbados. However, there are 250 extra minutes scheduled if needed, since it is a day game according to the local time.
What happens if the India vs England semi-final is rained out?
Due to significant rainfall in Guyana in recent days, there is a high chance of the match being washed out. There is a 90 percent chance of rain. If no play is possible on the scheduled day, India will advance to the final based on their higher group standing.
The same applies to the other semi-final. If no play is possible on the scheduled day and the reserve day, South Africa will move on to the final due to their higher ranking in the Super Eight stage.
In the event of rain interrupting play on the scheduled day, there will be no fresh start on the reserve day for either semi-final. There are 60 extra minutes at the end of the day’s play and an additional 190 minutes on the reserve day for the first semi-final.
