All-rounder Shivam Dube has been selected as a replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in the Indian T20 squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, as announced by the BCCI on Wednesday. The team will play five T20 Internationals in Zimbabwe starting from July 6. According to the statement released by the BCCI, “The men’s selection committee has included Shivam Dube as a replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.” The BCCI’s medical team is closely monitoring the progress of the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder.
During the series, all matches between India and Zimbabwe will be played in Harare. Youngsters Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish were recently rewarded with their first India call-ups for the white-ball tour of Zimbabwe, with Shubman Gill leading the team.
Senior players currently participating in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas, such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, have been rested ahead of a busy season. Nitish Reddy was honored with the Emerging Player title for the 2024 IPL season.
The 21-year-old Nitish showcased his talent by scoring 303 runs at an average of 33.67 and a strike rate of 142.92 in the previous IPL season. His standout performance came against Rajasthan Royals, where he scored a sensational 42-ball 76, including eight sixes and three fours. Nitish also made significant contributions with the ball, picking up three wickets in his second IPL campaign.
