India is set to host the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup cricket tournament in the T20 format in 2025, serving as a prelude to the T20 World Cup slated to take place in the country in 2026, as announced by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in its Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI).
Since its transition to a T20 event in 2016, the Asia Cup has been utilized as a rehearsal for the global event, aligning with the format of the impending World Cup.
The 2023 edition, hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), adopted a ‘Hybrid Model’ due to India’s reluctance to travel to their neighboring country, leading to their matches being held in Sri Lanka.
In 2027, the Asia Cup will revert to the ODI format in Bangladesh, coinciding with the 50-over World Cup set to occur in South Africa in the same year.
The 2025 T20 Asia Cup in India and the 2027 50-over continental event in Bangladesh will each feature 13 matches, totaling 26 games during the specified period.
“‘Men’s Asia Cup Tournament’ refers to the biennial senior men’s cricket competition organized and overseen by the ACC, involving specific member countries such as Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and one Non Test playing Member of ACC determined through qualifying events,” outlined the ACC in its IEOI statement.
