The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been relocated from Bangladesh to the UAE.
“Unfortunately, the Women’s T20 World Cup will not be held in Bangladesh as originally planned,” stated ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice. “We appreciate the efforts of the BCB in trying to make it happen, but travel restrictions from the governments of several participating teams made it unfeasible.”
“Nevertheless, Bangladesh will still have the opportunity to host a future ICC global event,” added Allardice.
The change in venue was necessary due to the unrest in Bangladesh, prompting the ICC to seek alternative options.
The UAE, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe were considered as potential hosts after the BCCI declined the opportunity.
The tournament, featuring ten teams, is scheduled to take place from October 3 to October 20.
ICC chair Barclay to step down in November
Greg Barclay has informed the ICC Board of his decision to resign as ICC chairperson when his term concludes in November.
Barclay, who was initially appointed in November 2020 and re-elected in 2022, will be succeeded by a new chair starting on December 1.
