“It may make for good TV ratings, but the nature of my relationship is not for public consumption,” Gambhir stated in his first press conference since becoming head coach. “The dynamic between Virat Kohli and myself is a private matter between two mature individuals.”
“While on the field, there may be conflicts as players fight for their team, at the end of the day, we are representing India and its people,” Gambhir explained. “I am confident that we are on the same page in our pursuit to make India proud.”
“Off the field, we share a strong relationship, and that will continue. However, the specifics of our relationship are personal and not meant for public scrutiny,” Gambhir added.
Gambhir revealed that he has had discussions with Kohli recently, but preferred not to disclose the details. “The number of conversations we have had, whether before or after my appointment, is not as important as our shared goal of making India proud,” Gambhir emphasized.
Gambhir expressed his confidence in both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ability to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup despite their age. He believes that as long as they maintain their fitness levels, they still have a lot to offer to the team and can continue to perform at a high level.
