The new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, assumed his role with the Indian men’s cricket team as they started their practice session in Pallekele ahead of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir, taking over from Rahul Dravid, led the team in training drills focused on fielding, running, catching, and one-on-one interactions with players. The new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, also engaged in discussions with the team.
Gambhir was seen providing batting tips to Sanju Samson and conversing with all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Netherlands batter Ryan ten Doeschate are part of Gambhir’s coaching staff for the Sri Lanka tour. The trio led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL 2024 title recently.
Their first series with the national team begins on July 27 with the T20I matches followed by three ODIs.
T Dilip, part of Dravid’s support staff, remains the fielding coach, and Sairaj Bahutule from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru will serve as the interim bowling coach.
