Salman Butt, a former cricketer, commended India’s pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his stellar performance in the high-stakes T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Bumrah’s exceptional display in the second innings earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award as he took three wickets while conceding just 14 runs at an impressive economy rate of 3.50. Salman, speaking on his official YouTube channel, lauded Bumrah’s ability to thrive under pressure, noting his knack for taking wickets at crucial junctures.
Salman also praised India’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, highlighting his improved fitness level.
“Bumrah was outstanding. He excels under pressure, displaying accuracy in his bowling and consistently taking wickets at crucial moments. His economy rate was commendable as well. India’s fielding was exceptional, and I must mention Rishabh Pant, who appears fitter now. India deservedly emerged victorious,” Salman remarked.
Expressing disappointment with Pakistan’s performance, Salman attributed their loss to self-inflicted errors, claiming that Babar Azam’s team had a clear opportunity to win the match.
“Pakistan’s defeat was a result of their own mistakes. While India held their nerve, Pakistan had the game within their reach but let it slip away. With seven wickets in hand, only Pakistan could have thrown away such a golden opportunity,” he added.
Recapping the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first. Despite a challenging pitch, India’s top-order batsmen struggled, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failing to make significant contributions. Rishabh Pant’s aggressive innings of 42 off 31 balls provided some resistance, but Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, restricted India to 119 runs in 19 overs.
In the chase, Mohammed Rizwan played a steady innings, but Bumrah and Hardik Pandya’s crucial wickets of key batsmen kept the pressure on Pakistan. Despite Naseem Shah’s valiant effort in the final over, Pakistan fell short by six runs, with Bumrah rightfully earning the ‘Player of the Match’ accolade for his match-winning performance.
