Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have confirmed the comeback of Dinesh Karthik to the team for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, this time as the ‘mentor and batting coach’. Karthik bid farewell to the game after the conclusion of the 2024 IPL season with RCB finishing 4th. Following his stint as a commentator and pundit for the T20 World Cup 2024, Karthik has embraced a new role in the sport, getting closer to the team.
“Welcome our keeper in every sense, Dinesh Karthik back into RCB in an all-new avatar. DK will be the mentor and batting coach of RCB Men’s team! You can take the man out of cricket but not cricket out of the man! Shower him with all the love, 12th Man Army!” RCB announced in a post.

Karthik has been a stalwart of Indian cricket for many years and was a part of the triumphant 2007 T20 World Cup squad. The 34-year-old debuted for India in 2004 and has enjoyed a successful career spanning over two decades.
He has also left his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing 27 matches for teams like KKR, RCB, DC, and MI, and winning the title once with the Men in Blue. Karthik amassed 4842 runs in the league at a strike rate of 135.36.
A new chapter beckons Karthik, who has been a standout finisher in the T20 format in recent years. While his name was in contention for the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, the BCCI opted for the duo of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the prestigious event.
