Australia fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood has admitted that the team is eager to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at home, a feat they have not achieved in recent years. Despite a strong performance in the previous series, the absence of key players like Steve Smith and David Warner has cost Australia the trophy in recent encounters with India.
Hazlewood expressed the team’s determination to overcome this challenge, stating, “There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series. It’s quite astounding to say that. That’s one we need to tick off, definitely, in particular at home – we should pretty much win every series here at home.”
Reflecting on past series, Hazlewood mentioned the unexpected defeat in the 2020/21 series despite a strong start in Adelaide. He emphasized the depth and strength of the Indian squad and the need for Australia to step up their game in the upcoming matches.
In addition to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Hazlewood also shared his ambition to play in the 2025 World Test Championship final at Lord’s, a missed opportunity from the previous edition where Australia emerged victorious.
“It’s always in the background, we have the table up (to see) where we are sitting and what we need to tick off. For me, it’s a big one because I didn’t get to play the last one in England so that’s a burning one for me,” the pacer explained.
