Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed praised the spinners as “genuine match-winners” before the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi. Ahmed refrained from revealing the playing combination for the first match, indicating that it would be determined after evaluating the conditions. “We will assess the conditions in Rawalpindi and decide the combination accordingly. Spinners play a crucial role in Test cricket, and their significance cannot be overlooked,” Ahmed stated during the press conference on Thursday.
“Bangladesh’s spinners are essential to their lineup and are true game-changers. It’s encouraging to see the country producing talented bowlers. Even if the pitch favors fast bowlers, we have quality pacers too,” he added.
Ahmed also emphasized the prowess of Pakistan’s spinners and suggested the need for a spin consultant. He recommended utilizing experts like Saqlain Mushtaq, Abdul Rehman, and Saeed Ajmal, not just at the national level but also at grassroots levels.
“Pakistan boasts a strong spin bowling attack and would benefit from having a dedicated spin consultant. Leveraging the expertise of individuals like Saqlain Mushtaq, Abdul Rehman, and Saeed Ajmal across all levels can be advantageous,” he emphasized.
The seasoned cricketer expressed gratitude towards the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for inviting Bangladesh early for the tour to conduct practice sessions amidst political turmoil in their country.
“The early invitation from the PCB to Bangladesh exemplifies good relations between the two boards. This gesture has been well-received and has facilitated our training,” he concluded.
