Nafees, who was working as Bangladesh’s logistical manager during the T20 World Cup, had been experiencing headaches for the past few days. He returned to the country with the team last Friday.
BCB’s head physician Debashis Chowdhury informed the media outside the hospital that Nafees is stable but will require a few weeks to fully recover.
“Specialists have diagnosed Nafees with cerebral venous thrombosis,” said Chowdhury. “He has blood clots in a specific part of his brain. His condition is stable and he is showing positive signs. He will need to stay here for observation for a few more days. The prognosis is good for a full recovery, but it will take time.”
BCB officials Jalal Yunus and Nizamuddin Chowdhury, along with players Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mashrafe Mortaza, went to the hospital to visit Nafees. Also, Nafees is the nephew of Akram Khan, a former Bangladesh captain and current BCB director.
Nafees has been serving as the manager of the Bangladesh national team for the past two years. During his playing days, he featured in 11 Tests and 16 ODIs from 2003 to 2006. Nafees has been a prominent figure in first-class cricket in Chattogram, participating in 120 matches for the division.
