“When I relinquished the captaincy in 2023, I felt it was the right decision at the time, so I stepped down voluntarily,” Babar explained. “When the PCB reinstated me as captain, it was their choice. I will have a thorough discussion with the PCB about our World Cup performance. If I decide to step down as captain, I will do so openly. I have not made any decisions yet. Ultimately, it is up to the PCB.”
When asked if he takes responsibility for Pakistan’s early exit as captain, Babar replied, “We win and lose as a team, not as individuals. Each player has a role to play, and as a team, we did not perform up to expectations. We need to acknowledge our collective failure and improve as a unit. I will provide my feedback to the decision-makers as part of my role as captain.”
Regarding who should be held accountable for Pakistan’s performance, Babar stated, “Blaming one individual does not address the issues we faced as a team. Everyone, including the captain, coach, and selectors, shares responsibility. We need to reflect on our performance and strive to do better in the future.”
